Common Questions
Do you support Multiplayer?
Yes we do! Multiplayer mode can be accessed a few ways…
Start a new, Multiplayer-specific Adventure:
Have the host click the “Play” button on the Home screen, then click "Multiplayer" from the New Game screen.
After setting up the game, have the host click the “…” menu in the upper right hand corner, scroll down to find the button “Invite Friends”, and click it to generate a sharable short code.
The host just needs to copy the code and share it with the other players. Remember that anyone who sees this code will be able to get on and post in your adventure, so be careful where you share it!
NOTE: To use a Scenario with multiplayer mode, you will have to start the Scenario, then make it multiplayer using the next instructions.
Turn an existing single player Adventure into a Multiplayer one:
Have the host go to the “…” tab of the right sidebar in the adventure, scroll all the way down to find the button “Invite Friends”, and click it to generate a sharable short code.
The host just needs to copy the code and share it with the other players. Remember that anyone who sees this will be able to get on and post in your adventure, so be careful where you share it!
Join a Multiplayer Adventure:
Get the short code from your host.
Go to the “Play” button on the Home screen.
Click the “Multiplayer” option in the New Game screen.
Enter the short code in the text box and click “JOIN”.
Third Person Mode
It is recommended that you play Multiplayer games in Third Person Mode, if you intend to play multiple characters using “Do" and “Say” actions!
To switch to Third Person mode, have the host go to the “…” tab of the right sidebar in the adventure, and click “Edit Adventure”.
Scroll down to the “3rd Person Only” option, and click the switch.
From now on, everyone in the Adventure will be prompted to enter a name for their character before continuing. This name will be used for their Do and Say actions.
NOTE: if you have access to Beta features, it is recommended that you change the AI Style to 3rd person when doing this, as that version of the AI is better at handling these commands.
Story Mode / Tandem Stories
You can use AI Dungeon however you want, Multiplayer included. This means, if you want to have a more “Tandem Story” like experience, all players can use the Edit button to change and add to existing actions, input actions in “Story” mode, or hit the send button without any text to just continue and get a response from the AI.
FAQs
Can we use premium features in Multiplayer?
Yes: only the host needs to have Premium, as AI Dungeon will use their settings for the Multiplayer Adventure. So, if you want everyone to play using the Dragon AI model, the person with a premium subscription should set up the game.
Where can I find other people to play Multiplayer with?
On the Discord in the #multiplayer channel. You can talk to other players here, and find someone who wants to do a multiplayer game.
Remember that anyone who sees your short code will be able to get on and post in the adventure it came from, so be careful who you share it with!
Can we play AI Dungeon in NSFW mode in Multiplayer?
To toggle NSFW mode on and off, have the host click "Edit Adventure" in the menu, find the NSFW option, and set it to your group's preference, just as you would in single-player. By default it's turned off.
Remember to make sure everyone playing is over 18, agrees to you setting it to NSFW mode, and is fine with whatever you want to do!
